Assignment 2-My Choice Roll: Cale Elementary

I liked how my pictures from Cale turned out. I tried to use different good qualities like leading lines or haveing a persons head and shoulders above the horizon. I also like my action and motion blur pictures. One that I printed has a boy with motion blur as the center of intrest with other kids running towards me in the background. My second picture I really like, there was a little girl with crutches and she was sitting on the stairs of the stage and in the picture you can see in the background the other kids running. I think my printing is an 8 because I did a littke dodging and burning but on one I probably could have gotten better contrast if I'd used a filter.

Assignment 7:Ambiguous Portraits

This portrait doesn't look posed because they aren't looking or seem to be aware of the camera and it is just a normally walk down the street.

This picture doesn't look posed because the baby is totally focused on the puppies and the picture is just capturing that as a really good portrati even though the baby isn't looking at the camera.

This picture looks realistic because it just looks like the family is on a walk and even though the kid is looking at the camera it still doesn't look posed.

This portrait doesn't look posed because neither one is paying attention to the camera and it just looks like the photographer captured a really cute moment.

This picture doesn't look posed because it just looks like the man is walking down the road in his own thoughts not even thinking about the camera.

My portraits

In the first picture the negative space gives light behind the subject and frames him. I like that I have the one person and then the other one framed on the other side of the door. In this second picture the negative space around the subject isn't very simple but adds to the Thanksgiving feeling of the picture because of all the food things for preparation. Both of these portraits look real because in both the subjects are obsorbed in what they are doing and not paying attention to me at all.

Assignment 5:My Carter's Mountain Roll

I like my subjects in the carter's mountainh roll especially of the one with the pumpkins and the mother with her child in the background. The one with the pupmkins doesn't have as strong of a center of intrest as the one with all the people with the mountains as the background. I also like my layers in both of the ones that I printed. I think my printing efforts were an 8 because I dodged and burned with both of my prints to try and stay focused on the main subjects, but I think I should have dodged a little more on the kid and mother so that the eye is drawn there first not the light area behind them.

Assignment 4:Positive Polaroid 'lift-off" prints

www.google.com
I think that for this process darker pictures would work better because the "lift-off " is so thin that if it is a really light picture you won't be able to see it very well, especially if you put it on glass. All characterisitcis of a good picture should still apply evenm if it is simple. My prints turned out really light so it is hard to see them, but I like my subjects in both.

Assignment 3:Sepia Prints

www.google.com

For my sepia prints my ideas were to take photos of animals and fall things because it would go well with sepia toning. I like how my pictures turned out, especially the one with Cassius playing in the leaves, I like how the leaves go with the sepia because they are dead leaves and usually look somewhat like sepia. I think that a good sepia print should have all the same interesting characteristics of a black and white one but should have more grays so that you can tone it easier. I think it would also look cool if you had a sepia background with the subject as a silhouette like the windmill one at the top.

Assignment 1: 5 Photographs that stand out

This image by Steve McCurry stands out to me because it is very well taken and you are immediatly drawn to her eyes. First the womans face is framed by her shawl and second the photographer did a good job making sure her eyes stood out and were the focus of the picture.

This photo by Jos Mcnally stands out because it is a portrait but most portraits just have the person. This portrait is in an unusual place but has a great sunset in the background. This portrait has many layers, a great background, and good lighting.

This picture by Joe Buissink is another good portrait. There is an intresting backgroun that adds to the picture and the point of view adds a different element. The point of view isn't just straight o like some portraits, in this one the photographer is looking up at her. There is light coming from behind the bride keeping the focus on her.

This image by Steve McCurry is a great photo even though there isn't a lot going on. I like that the two people are framed by a car window and that clearly the boy is the center of intrest. He is framednot only by the window but also by the one holding him. Also the rain on the car windows adds a different look making the picture stand out to me.
www.google.com
This image by Edward Curtis stands out to me because it captures the aspects of these peopls culture and it frames the people. The people are well framed by the two statues which represent part of their culture .

Hand Coloring

I think that a good hand colored print has smooth colors and that the different colors don't run into each other. I plan to take pictures of kids and to color parts of the picture. I like mine that I framed one boy with his shirt and the seat behind him leaving the rest in blakc and white. I think I need to work on smoothing out the colors more and making sure they don't run into other parts of the picture.

4 Coss-processed photos

Cross-processing is when you take film and develop it in a chemical solution meant for a different type of film. I think the best subjects for cross-processing are ones with lots of color so that you can tell a big difference when it is cross-processed. I liked how my cross-processed prints turned out, but didn't like that some had the same colors through the whole picture so I couldn't tell a difference in the colors that changed in some. Most of my colors were darker colors not really bright ones but the colors I did get changed really well.

4 Solarization pics.

www.google.com
For solarizartion I think that the more contrast you have in the picture the better it will soarize because it will be a more dramatic change if there is a lot of grays however than it wont have as big of a change when you go to solarize the picture. My ideas were staying with contrast, so i took pictures that had light and dark. I took pictures of graffiti that has lots of colors so when in black and white it is more contrast. I think that I did pretty good but I needed lots more light in some of my picture because they turned out too dark or too light and i had to expose for a long time to get the effect I wanted.

Polaroid Transfers

www.google.com

For my polaroid transfers I tried to find pictures that had many colors and had interesting components to them. For some of my pictures I did get bright colors and tried to use layering or other things. One that I did was of the mountains it had layers and colors. This one  turned out better than the other with less lift off. The other one was a bird on a fence with another bird behind it on a sunflower. This one was darker so when I transfered it there was more lift off. In this one I needed more light colors not dark ones so that it would transfer better.

4 photos using layers

This photo is showing 4 layers. The first layer would be the foreground;the snowy ground. The second layer is the house. The third layer is the trees on wither side extending above the house. The fourth layer would be the sky as the background. This also has good composition because the subject(the house) isn't directly in the middle of the photograph, this makes it more interesting.

This photo also has 4 layer. Again the first is going to be the foreground, in this case it is all the shrubery with the cacti. The second layer is the mountain range behind the cacti. The third layer woulkd be the sun. And the fourth layer is the yellow sky. I really like this picture and how the layers are one behind the other all lined up and showing a scenery.

This photo has 6 layers. The first layer is the two men and the bull in the front of the picture. The second layer is the hand carrying the red bucket off to the side. This photo also uses the framing technique because the third layer is framed by the first layer; the two men roping the bull. and then the fourth layer is framed by the third; the man on the horse. The fifth layer is the ground, and the sixth layer is the sky. Layers are hard to get but this photo was able to get 6 which makes it really good along with the framing.

This photo has three layers. The foreground is the trees. The second layer is the castle. And the third is the sky. This shows how simple layers can be, but to really get a good picture with many layers it takes a lot of work.

This portrait uses layers. The photo has four layers. One layer is the main subject, the girl. The second layer is the stone wall behind her. The third is the plants to the side of her, and the fourth is the pot that the plants are in.
What I liked about my layering photos was that I could get at least three in each photo. What I didn't like was that on some of them I didn't use other concepts to the photo besides just layering, i would sometimes just go back to subject in the middle of a quick shot. Layering can help you as a photographer because it can apply to any subject and will make all of your pictures stronger if they have more layers. The more layers there are the more intresting the picture will be.
Fiber paper is museum grade paper because it is smooth and can make a picture look really nice if the person knows what they are doing in the darkroom while printing.

3200 speed film

http://www.google.com

These two pictures show that 3200 speed film is grainy and sharp isn't what this film is about, the picture should still be in focus but it isn't sharp and defined. I choose these two because they show that even though the film is grainy the picture can still be in focus and that the film adds a different effect to the pictures. This helps so that in the future with 3200 film I can stilol take pictures of whatever and have them turn out really well but with a deifferent style than the other pictures I take.I think that the grain in higher speeds film is really cool I like the different look it gives to pictures but there are some pictures that you should still use slower film speed to get the clairity.I liked my idea for the lighting on this roll, I took pictures at night trying to get dramatic lighting, a few pictures this concept worked and I got a picture of the headlights on the highway at night time which turned out really cool. For this roll I used ISO 3200. If I retook this roll I would make sure that there was actually enough light in the setting to be able to see detail. The disadvantages of this film is you don't get total sharpness. The advantages is that you can shoot in dark settings and get a better result than with slower speed films.

Photo 2 roll 1

My first roll of film was a free roll at school. My subject was Caroline and the school garden in the back. My first two prints were both from the garden. My very first one I worked on was of a flower with the sun burtsing out in a star behind it. to actually show the star effect of the sun  I had to burn in about 28 extra seconds at the top of the picture. This really brought out the star effect. My second picture I didn't really change anything, no doging or burning. The second photo was of a grasshopper sitting on one of the flowers with the sun reflecting of its back. I think I shouldnt have stuck the grasshopper in straight in the middle of the picure and should have tried to get some of a background so it wouldnt be blank space without the grasshopper in the middle.

How to go against what your light meter says

If you shoot into a bright background you would over expose by two stops but if you shoot into a dark background you should under expose by two stops. If there is bright light on the subject with a dark background you should under expose a little.
